    Illustration Pummel Skrulls

I did this for this month's Pummel.

    This is a WIP.

The final is intended to be fully painted. I see some things I want to change.

    I'm interested in you comments.

You have a mixture of stylistic things that are throwing me off. The foreground skrulls are heavily lined and inked. But then everything behind them is rendered in a more painterly fashion with edges instead of linework. This seems incongruous, particularly with the figures standing on the structure in the midground. You have a lot of textures going in in various surfaces that are busy and sort of subtly dissonant. For instance, the sky has a cloud brushy pattern--so clouds? But then it carries down towards the bottom, so is it mist? It pushes up against the veiny rocky texture of the grey wall but doesn't obscure it.

Another, to my eye, odd thing is the reflections on the bridge. It's brighter around the area where the support beam is. The support beam has a highlight in the center, as if there's a glowing object directly below it. It seems like you made selections and filled areas with tones and textures but they don't really cohere.

The skrulls all have a "who farted" look on their face. What do you picture them reacting to?

Thanks for taking the time to comment battlewraith .

This is a WIP, the final work will be a fully painted piece. So any incongruities will disappear. It’s present state, was for Pummel submission.

Skulls are bug-eyed aliens, I’m doing my best to handle that “who farted” look.

When galactus showed up at their homeworld for lunch was a pivotal moment for the Skrulls. You might try to catch that WTF moment when big G came for his reservation.

The right-most skrull got something strange going on with his mouth, im not the best judge on whether it is anatomically correct/connected, but as an observer/viewer it just LOOKS off to me.

I told him to spit that gum out before the picture. Thanks Basilisk.

The one thing that doesn't look right to me and I think someone on our voting poll mentioned it is that the background is lacking a background while the front is so boldly lined. Good luck with finishing this, look forward to seeing the final.

Since this has been mentioned a few times already, I’m going to make the OP have bold large letters so everyone notices that the final is going to be fully painted. There will be no black lines.

I just added the lines to have something to submit for our Pummel battle, ReggieR3mote.

Cool man, I hope I wasn't being annoying in mentioning that another time, just wanted to be helpful! Good luck with finishing.
