I think that your revisions strengthen the piece. It reads much better now. Nice work!
Thanks guys, i went with the sea of red hair. I feel the more i tweak, the more i kill the piece...
I'm going to vote against the grain and go with #2.
Medusa hung with some bad folks early on but was never herself a villian. Once the Inhumans are revealed we learn her role is identical to Sue in the FF, she's MOM. #1 is not a Mom pose. Medusa is not a boxer, martial artist or wrestler. She does not use her hands in a fight. She's not a witch with creepy claw hands (nicely drawn though they are) Perfectly acceptable as a single panel shot inside a 20 page book, for a character defining display shot, #1 is Anti-Medusa.
After Mom, Medusa's secondary role is Queen. #2 displays majesty, calm, imperialism. #2 is truer to her character. A little cropping, place her off center to play with positive/negative space, throw some Attilan in the BG (from the balcony, window, in the plaza, machine filled corridor, throne room...) and you'll have distilled her to her pure essence.
TOO MUCH HAIR!
Both examples are Rapunzel on a bad hair day. Medusa is not Black Bolt, Cyclops or Rogue. She is not a victim of her power. She has complete control of every inch of every strand of hair. Get her hair under control. Yes it's alive, it snakes and twirls but UNDER control.
Your Spirit piece is SMURFING BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen from you and is just one small step from perfection. What would that small step be? Replace "the Spirit" with "the Squid" slap a ™ on it, draw up a story and send it to the © office and GET IT PROTECTED!
Thanks man, just took a look at your art, love it.
The background on the second piece, after i learn how to draw it, was supposed to be the Eldrac... loved what you did with the hair. You are now the co-owner of " The Squid ". Thanks for taking the time Smitty.
Yeah, i remember that, thanks MLaw.
... a couple more sketches...
I'm digging so much of what is in here... but thinking on what Smitty said, and I think he's maybe got the right of it. Think regal. Think majesty. Think confidence.
Some of your poses, while really cool looking, look like she's skulking... and I'm not sure that matches her. I'd maybe try one shade lower than arrogance.
But man... I'm REALLY enjoying these.
