Mole Man Sketch (For Kirby 100)

Just trying to practice staying loose, getting the shapes down and figuring out some shadow placement (which i prolly botched HARD)

Critiques not just welcome but encouraged. DC set the bar WAY outta my league but imma give it everythin i got and try to use all of the information of been getting from here to fight! xD

nice job! maybe try pushing the pose a little bit more, seeing as it's kirby? really plant the feet and have him grip the stick like he's trying to break it! nice start! looking forward to the end result! and d.c launched the bar to the moon! why did he have to go first!

It is not easily apparent that he is standing on a creature. You should have someone pose for you so you can get the angle and hands correct. Definitely need a background.

Thanks guys! I'm gonna put some work into the end of this month doing some foot/hand practice to really sell that.

What do people thinking about bumping him a little bit more to the right? Ive been massively trolling old posts for critiques and information and ive been seeing alot on composition and the rule of thirds and i think ive got him too close to center?

Ill play around with it and see which feels better

While drawing outside in, top down is where we want to get, until you master inside out, bottom up drawing, you're smurfed.

Learn your 3 basic shapes: Circles, squares, triangles. With perspective, learn to convert them to: spheres, boxes and pyramids. Now you can draw anything.

Blue - Start with basic shapes. Note how it's nearly all circles until I get to the hands which are square for fingers 2-4 but, a triangle for the index finger, finger #1.

Red - Drape shapes with muscle and fat.

Black - Drape that shape with cloth and skin. Now you can add details like folds, shadows, hair etc.

This is not the only method of construction. You could do a line of action with armature, boxes only, stick figures, spaghetti and beans... but, until you can build from the inside out (even if that building is all in your head) you'll never achieve form, mass, weight... you'll just have a collection of lines.

While you're working on getting better at drawing figures, here's a classic tutorial to help you with the placement of those figures.

Thanks smitty! Yeah, I do build on general stick and ball first and then tubes, but i still dont achieve the mass i should. Now that I put the Rakshasa pic to mostly rest, and am finishing up on my remaining patreon commitments, I plan to work a lil bit more on getting this to a phase 2. and practicing adding that mass.

(Must spread some rep around before giving more to Smitty)

MLAW - Thanks for that link it looks great! ill look through it tommorrow, im just heading out the door right now!

Okay! Ive been so SO busy but i decided to scrap this and rework it. give it a little more energy. There are definately some issues here but i'm exceptionally happy with how its shaping it given my current level of knowledge and understanding of various concepts. I'm not done this is still in the wip-area as i wanna tweak a few things and id love to get some of those adorable moloids in there. xD

Also, If Smitty sees this! I have recently picked up Perspective made easy and stuff in there especially the last half is blowing my mind xD
