    Thor : Ragnarok

I searched, but I only could find the Thor 2 thread. If there is another one Mods please merge

    Cast was introduced today

    Jeff Goldblum - Grandmaster
    Cate Blanchett - Hela
    Tessa Thompson - Valkyrie
    Karl Urban - Skurge
    Hulk will also be returning

I like that they kept Hela's cool design. They changed Valkyries race so I'm guessing we may have different background story for her. Maybe related to Heimdall?

Full Thor 3 Cast List Includes Jeff Goldblum & Karl Urban

I love it. This nails that feeling for me of being a kid in the 80s and getting an overdose of inspiration looking at cartoons, comics and movies. Whereas the trailer for Ready Player One tried to do that but failed because it just referenced a bunch of properties I like and did nothing else.

Thor and Hulk bro-ing out on a bench could be an entire movie and I'd eat it all up.

It was a really fun flick. Very GOTG in its approach and completely hilarious because I couldn't resist the New Zealand accent. Maybe Crazy Mobius is in this. The strong focus on this was humor.

I just love how colourful the imagery is too.

The first scene has an awesome display of Thor with his hammer. Very comic bookesque. Take the family. They'll have a blast.

Had a lot of fun too. I will say it feels a bit disjointed and slight, which keeps me from completely loving it.

I found it odd that, after wrapping up some loose ends, it basically becomes two different movies.

    SPOILER! HIGHLIGHT TO READ:
The actual plot and stakes are on Asgard, and feel like a proper Thor sequel. But the majority of the story takes place on Sakaar, because that's where the main heroes are. It's expecially weird because that part of the film ends up being a fun diversion, that doesn't really have any bearing on the plot, while the actual story basically closes off the trilogy and get the short shrift.

I guess every Thor movie had little mini adventures with all the universe hopping and had Thor away from major plot developments.
But I found it very noticable in this one because they're so different from one another. It's weird how it basically a Guardians film starring Thor and Hulk, and occasionally cuts back to a film that is more in line with the previous films. It's an odd choice.

That said, I did like how it's basically two types of 80s genre films in one. I'm just not sure if it makes for a cohesive story.
Also ,as much as I enjoyed the humour, I did think it undercut some moments that I think should have had some weight.

But the character interactions were great and I'm looking forward to seeing all of them again.

The story was all over the place but they went for more style than substance. It's true, the humor did undermine moments of drama but I think they were venturing into more fantasy 80s type of a vibe where it's a movie very dumbed down.

If you wanted to be analytical, Chris Hemswoth's Thor is not comic book Thor. How would a God get a Point Break reference? I didn't find Hemsworth funny in Ghostbusters but he's got the Australian laidback attitude in Thor which is probably most like his personality irl.

Personally I don't like the new look of Thor and bummed about two particular things that happen to him.
    SPOILER! HIGHLIGHT TO READ:
Hela destroying mjolnir and Thor losing his eye in battle. His iconic look is gone and the theory that mjolnir keeps Thor's power in check needs some explanation.

Disney's shift must be to keep the Marvel movies funny and lighthearted if they are recruiting people with backgrounds in comedy. I think the movie really feels like a Marvel Team up comic book.

I think Cate Blanchett looks great as Hela. Great to see Idris Elba too. He looks like the mutant, Bishop. Karl Urban, was in a strange role. His redemption arc was a bit underwhelming.
